Is there more?
Life is experienced by every one of us; yet to the majority, it is the world's greatest mystery. 'I can't get no satisfaction' (Mick Jagger).
But what about yourself? Has the person you see in the mirror each day been blinkered to the realities of existence? Writers, thinkers and singers join us in asking such questions. Is life meant to be a dream, a joke, a quest, or a meaningful relationship?
Perhaps those same thoughts were in the mind of the person who scratched this graffiti on a door: 'To be is to do' (Sartre). 'To do is to be' (Camus). 'Do be do be do be do' (Sinatra).
The most fundamental questions in life are still: Where have I come from? ... What am I doing here? ... Where am I going? Yet, how many people really face up to these 'reality bites'?
God laid on Christ the things which have kept us at a distance from Him. He took the punishment which we deserve. He died as a substitute for our wrongdoing. Having paid for our sins on the cross, Jesus is the bridge to knowing God. On the basis of such a death, God is willing to forgive people and start again with them ... with us!
We were made to have an intimate knowledge of God. That is the purpose of life. It is our sin that has cut us off from the real relationship with our Maker.
The Christ of the cross - the Jesus of the empty tomb - the living Lord and Saviour - is wanting and willing to bring anyone into a relationship with God. This link-up is for time and eternity. It is available to everyone who will ask Him to become their personal Lord and Saviour.
There are teeth to these truths. This reality bites! Jesus said: 'If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed.'
